IAN AND TANIA: Artists. Revolutionaries. Martyrs.

February 6, 2015 | 6:00 PM | College of Fine Arts Parking lot, UP Diliman

“Ian and Tania: Artists. Revolutionaries. Martyrs” is a Tribute to U.P. Fine Arts students Ian Dorado and Tania Domingo on their 5th Death Anniversary in recognition of their ultimate contribution to the movement for genuine social change.

The memorial night aims to apprise FA students with the lives of these two alumni with whom they share the College history and who are worthy of emulation as artists. The memorial will include musical and literary performances by fellow artists and a look back on Ian and Tania through a video presentation and testimonials from people who knew them well—family, friends, classmates, professors and orgmates.

Both Ian and Tania were students of Painting (CFA Batch 2006 and 2007, respectively). They were exceptional artists who, because of their personal experiences and exposure to social realities, left relatively easy lifestyles to join the Filipino masses in their struggle for a humane and just society.

Trade and Upcycling Workshop with overXout

Trade and Upcycling Workshop with overXout

February 19, 2015 | 1:00-3:00 PM | Vargas Museum, UP Diliman, Quezon City

overXout collaborates with artists Miguel Puyat, Indy Paredes and Roman James SoleƱo for "Trade and Upcycling Workshop", presented by common space/ swarm bibliotheque, a component of the exhibiiton Ethos, Bathos Pathos at the UP Vargas Museum. The exhibition is part of Project Bakawan and is supported by the Japan Foundation. The workshop is free and open to the public and will be held outdoors, at the porch of the UP Jorge Vargas Musum.

The skill sharing event will focus on utilizing and transforming objects that are considered trash by households. Participants must bring basic trade materials like old things from their own collections, functional materials and works that may be considered utilitarian, ready for trading (displayable artworks may be included with the sole value of trading purposes). Materials may also be gathered from other persons who wants to participate (artists and friends). The objects will be displayed in our booth and viewers will be informed that those objects are subject to trading. We promote money-less trade to keep the cycle going.

Objects can be posted in the social networks and are up-for-grabs, open for barter or for trade. The only rule is that the objects will not be bought and only traded or bartered.

Artists will also create objects on the spot to resourcefully re-manipulate its use, so that it can be utilized. In this way the goal of up cycling can be demonstrated not only on the days of the event, the purpose is for its advocacy to be properly demonstrated.

They also welcome viewers to share their experiences on re-utilizing objects.

overXout is a sculpture and concept for a collapsible infoshop, library and community center with the goal of researching the direct relationship of contemporary art to cultural transformation. It is an ongoing project on design, economic sustainability of programmes, workshops for rehabilitiation, ecological transformation, mobility infrastructures and the contribution of artists working on the contemporary realm in directly taking part to foster cultural transformation for the self and for the community within the Asian/Southeast Asian context. overXout is a project of artist England Hidalgo.
