Donation Drive: A CALL FOR CORDILLERAN UNITY

The group behind the 14 Cordilleran Heroes tribute page have put up an account for everyone who would like to give their donations to the families of the 14 brave Cordilleran SAF (Special Action Force) members. [Read the story behind the creation of the page here and another one written by Mr. Alexander Bangsoy, here ] The page name states "13", because it was only later that they found out that another SAF is also an Ifugao, who grew up in Nueva Vizcaya. They can no longer change the name of the page to "14 Cordilleran Heroes" due to Facebook's policy that the name can no longer be changed when more than 200 likes are reached.

Here are the names of the 14 Heroes and where they were from:
  1. PO3 Robert D. Allaga - Banaue, Ifugao
  2. Police Senior Inspector Cyrus Anniban - Balbalan, Kalinga

ANDRES COSALAN Jr. (an ibaloi representing the catholic church), BISHOP JOEL PACHAO (from Bontoc and representing the episcopal church), BISHOP PETER MAYYAM (an Ifugao representing the evangelical churches) and ALEXANDER BANGSOY (from Mountain Province).
You may place your donations through:

  • **If you want to still help after March 2, 2015 the individual contact details of the families where you can contact them directly will be published.

Donation Drive: Dennis "Motmot" Matibag Memorial Fund

Dennis "MotMot" Matibag
Jan 10, 1972 - Jan 21, 2015

Our hearts were saddened to hear about Mot mot's passing. He died January 21st 2015 due to heart failure. He was 43. He is one of the local scene's important figures in Philippine Hardcore and Punk music scene. Big fella with a big heart. He is a friend, a brother, a father and a husband. Even though life was hard, he did not let that get in his way to help out people, inspire and put a smile on our faces or rather... made us laugh... Lets celebrate his life instead of feeling the sorrow of his passing...Please help us raise money for us to be able to help his family lay his body to rest and other expenses the family will incur during this ordeal. He is survived by his daughter Nikki, his son Gio and his wife Jane.
~ Dennis "MotMot" Matibag Memorial Fund

  • Salamat Dennis Motmot Matibag.
    Words by Keith Dador

You do not talk about Philippine Punk and Hardcore without mentioning this guy and his role in building this small conterculture/subculture.

From Bulldozed to Power of Discipline to Bound by Fury to Isvarah. Whatever band this man fronts, you feel every ounce of passion poured into the mic.

Til this day, I still stand on my opinion that Isvarah is Manila's most dangerous band.

They will pound on you like nothing else.

They scare the SHIT out of me every single time they take the stage.

    You WILL get hurt.

    You might break something.

Don't tell me I didn't warn you when a wrecking ball hits you in the middle of the pit. Every single song they belt out turns into a cathartic experience and you will stand in awe staring at the devastation this band will leave. You will take attention at the power this band commands. I've been shooting Mot ever since Bulldozed (I think) and after all these years, he has lost not one ounce of ferocity and sincerity. For what it's worth, time has refined his presence onstage to purity.

Time might decay the body, but his presence, passion, and contribution to this subculture will live forever.

Again, Isvarah still remains Manila's most dangerous band and Motmot, the sharpest blade.

Remembering Motmot
STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART Fundraiser Show (Feb. 2, 2013)

My brother passed away today...theres no words of comfort I can say that would change that he wouldn't even read this post. Life was really hard for him but he took away the bad days from so many messed up people like me..cant write shit no more. I prayed for you but you still vanish. Rest in peace my brother Motmot Isvarah you will live forever.
~ Reypeace Bravo

Naging mabuting kuya ka sa akin mula bata pa ako hanggang ngayon. Mahal na mahal ka namin ni utol, Motmot. Til we meet again.
Rest in power! ~ Konspira Zine

Love you, tol! ~ Allen Rubis

I met Tomtom, in the late 80's, as Mr.Joseph Igor Agmata helped me remember, Tandem Recto, Manila was the place, He was wearing his boots, i think it was a copy of a pair of black redwing boots, with chains, sometimes with a red bandana wrap around the boot. I think he was called "tomtom' because of his build, he was like a big tomtom drum, As Igor told me, it was because of the Yagit teleserye, hehehe, Tomtom and my friends from Feu Roderick, Paul, they have a mutual friend from Sweden,Goran from SOD (Sounds of Disaster), We all shared the love for this thing called scene, punk rock, hardcore, thrash, crossover. We eventually became good friends, we been through many good and bad, and very bad times..

Namimiss ko pag nakuusap tayo about music, anger, spirituality, old habits and artsy fartsy,.
Pag tinatanong kita Mot " Anong nga tribe mo nun 80's sa paco? di ba Rebels ka nun ksama mo sila ollie?" Ang lagi mong sagot " gagu! Octobriana Lain" hehehe
Miss you old friend, Motmot. ~ Alain John Bascon Colcol

Tomtom as he was fondly called by Old Skul Punks and Hard Cores are one of the punks close to Ollie and RDA’s heart. During RDA’s hibernation when Ferdie and Angelo were in training, Tomtom was one of those mates who encouraged Ollie to regroup RDA. Tomtom and Ollie were neighbors in Paco, Manila.

I don’t know why we didn't had the chance to perform side by side with his band Isvarah but we used to play along with his former powerful hard core band POD or Power Of Discipline. Tomtom’s loud, fierce and powerful voice always turns the house upside down and his hard core stuff will blow you away.

During the pre-FB era or during the time when FB was not yet that popular among the Filipinos, blogs were then dominant and when there are blogs tackling about Pinoy Punk Bands, Tomtom will always raise RDA in the blogs. He would always praise Ollie and RDA. A proud RDA friend and loyalist.

Tomtom, on behalf of RDA and Collision we wish you well to your new journey. May Almighty God guide your spirit to His Kingdom in Heaven. Thanks for the music and your dedication to the Philippine Underground Punk Scene. You will never be forgotten.
Rest In Peace Brother... ~ Gene Lorenzo

An integral, irreplaceable part of Filipino independent music is now gone...forever. It is now up to us to keep his memory alive through his music, his words, by remembering what he stood for, and what he stood against. He was well-loved, yes, but there are still some that he rubbed the wrong way. Why? Because he stood his ground and spoke his mind...and that is how a life should be lived. He was unrelenting, unwavering, unafraid, and that is what makes him unforgettable. Much respect, Mot. Rest well. ~ Ron Schlander

Back in the day, I mistook your willingness to embrace people I considered "posers" to be part of the underground scene as weakness. I held on to my puritanical beliefs with clenched fists. You embraced them with open arms and offered them friendship.
When I would not spend one second of my time with them, I often saw you welcoming them into your home and spending your days hanging out with them.

I thought you were weak. I was wrong. Your love for the scene was so pure that nobody was unworthy of it. That is true strength.
I may not be involved with the scene anymore, but I carry it with me every moment of my life and would not be the man I am today if it were not for those years we spent fighting for it.
You will be missed. ~ Atan

Sapatos Project - Year 3

THE SAPATOS PROJECT

In 2010, the members of the Quality Team in one of the BPO companies in Pampanga were inspired to celebrate their Christmas Party in one of the orphanages in Angeles City. When the idea came about, the quality specialists and experts got so excited that they were able to raise funds in a short span of time and provide for the computer package and school needs of the kids in the institution.

Since then, the activity became an annual event of sharing, giving and paying it forward to the different institutions in Pampanga.
• Children’s Home of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Balibago, Angeles City – 2010
• Elders’ Home, Bahay Pag-ibig, San Fernando, Pampanga – 2011
• Children’s Home of Eucharistic Love and Kindness, Telabastagan, San Fernando, Pampanga - 2012
• Duyan ni Maria, Malabanias, Angeles City – 2012, 2013 and 2014

In 2012 when the group was planning for this activity, the 60 kids from Duyan ni Maria shared their need and simple dream of having a new pair of black shoes for the incoming academic year. Making this dream a reality brought the group so much joy that it ignited a deep passion to serve these kids… giving birth to this project.

DUYAN NI MARIA
Situated in Malabanias Road, Angeles City, the institution is a home to 60 kids, ages ranging from less than one year to 20 years old, who were abandoned, neglected and maltreated by their families and relatives. “Duyan” not only provides shelter and home care but it ensures that the kids will have a brighter future by supporting their education from elementary until college, through the assistance of different benefactors.

HOW YOU CAN BE A BLESSING
The organizers are raising funds for the following needs of the children and the institution:
• For the Kids
o Black school shoes and socks
o Clothing: undergarments
o Personal hygiene needs
o Milk and diapers for infants

• For the Institution
o Rice, groceries and milk: For the daily meals of the kids and the staff
o Kitchen and cleaning materials

They are accepting both cash and in-kind donations.

To send your donations, feel free to reach out to the organizers listed below:
Joanne Dizon
Billy Cabilbil
Raymond Pierre Cortez
Rob Aguilon

DETAILS OF THE EVENT
The fundraising project will conclude in a Christmas Party for the kids, scheduled on December 27, 2014 (Saturday) from 2-5PM in the institution in Malabanias, Angeles City. It will be an afternoon of fun and laughter – playing games with the kids, serving them food and distributing the Christmas presents obtained from this initiative.

For more info, please visit their event page on facebook.

In behalf of the organizers of this event, we are inviting you to be part of this great cause and be an inspiration to more people in impacting our world positively.

Be one with us in serving these kids. Be a blessing. Be an answer to their prayers.

SOS: Food Not Bombs-Bacolod "Share a Book, Save a Future" Project

Written By: Konspira Zine

SOS: Last month, on October 25, an FB group,
BOOK & MAG Junkies, held a benefit show/book donation drive in response to Food Not Bombs-Bacolod's plea for book donations to be given to Concepcion, Ilo-ilo's Nipa Elementary School's library and it's students.

We were able to gather 15 Balikbayan sized boxes of books, with running count of approx 1,000 books (amounting to rougly 130 kilos in total weight) donated by friends all over. Our friends from Bacolod were only able to bring with them 6 boxes when they visited Manila 2 weeks ago.

The remaining 9 boxes are left at a friends space in Sucat, Parañaque, awaiting shipping to Ilo-ilo where they are to be given to it's recipients. More than 800 books are to be given as gifts to the schoolchildren, while more than 300 more are to be donated to their school's library.

Please spread the word. Let good-hearted people help out in any way they can. Repost, share, tell your friends about this. Let private businesses know they can help. Let the local government units know that we still welcome their assistance. Help us get the books into the children's hands. Help our schoolchildren out. Any inquiries can be addressed to Jedd Left Hander at (+63)9264886920 or Jeff at (+63)9266118466.

IDB Sucat (where the remaining boxes are held) is having it's farewell show this Saturday, 15th November. A cash donation box for helping us will be passed around and will be visible at the door. Look for Sharen or Sannee if you want to help. IDB may no longer be made available to store these boxes if unshipped, as the venue itself is closing down. For transparency purposes and to get the book-keeping straight, you may coordinate directly with FNB-Bacolod City, Philippines, too.

Immeasurable thanks to Kat, Mel, Tagne/Hey Ho G Burgs Muntinlupa, Nigel, Jade, Jay, Dencio, Ching and Jedd for this initiative. To Sannee and Sharen for the assistance in storing the boxes. To all the bands, attendees, families, friends and volunteers who made this book drive happen. You are welcome to help some more. Maraming salamat.
